Indulge in the enchanting flavors of Zuger Kirschtorte, a Swiss cherry cake infused with Kirsch and layered with whipped cream. Perfect for a special occasion or a delightful dessert to impress your guests.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 200 g cake flour
- 200 g sugar
- 6 large eggs
- 100 g butter
- 200 ml Kirsch
- 500 g cherries
- 300 ml whipped cream
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
Method
- 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add melted butter and mix well.
- 3
Sift in the cake flour and mix until just combined. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, then gently fold them into the cake batter.
- 4
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow cooling completely.
- 5
Once the cake is cool, slice it into three even layers. Soak each layer with Kirsch using a brush.
- 6
Whip the cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Spread whipped cream and cherries between each layer.
- 7
Top the cake with more whipped cream and decorate with additional cherries. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
- 8
Slice and enjoy your Zuger Kirschtorte!
