IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams all-purpose flour
- 10 grams salt
- 25 grams sugar
- 15 grams active dry yeast
- 300 ml whole milk
- 75 grams unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
Method
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar, and mix well.
- 2
Dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- 3
Add the yeast mixture and melted butter to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- 4
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 6
After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into three equal pieces. Roll each piece into long strands and braid them together.
- 7
Place the braided dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- 8
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk for the egg wash, then brush it over the dough.
- 9
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
