Indulge in the sweet, nutty flavors of Yakgwa, a traditional Korean honey cookie infused with sesame oil and ginger. Perfect for festive occasions or a cozy afternoon treat with tea.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or pine nuts
  • 1 tsp salt

Method

  1. 1

In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground ginger, and salt together.

  2. 2

In a separate bowl, combine the honey, sesame oil, and water until well mixed.

  3. 3

Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.

  4. 4

Fold in the chopped walnuts or pine nuts until evenly distributed in the dough.

  5. 5

Cover the dough and let it rest for about 30 minutes at room temperature.

  6. 6

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Shape the dough into small oval cakes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  7. 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. 8

Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before serving.
