Indulge in the warm, fluffy goodness of Weggli, a delightful Swiss bread roll that’s perfect for breakfast or a cozy afternoon snack. With hints of vanilla and a soft texture, these rolls are a treat for any occasion.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 300 ml milk
- 50 g unsalted butter
- 10 g dry yeast
- 50 g sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Method
- 1
In a bowl, combine lukewarm milk, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for approximately 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and vanilla extract if using.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball.
- 4
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a small round bun.
- 6
Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- 7
Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the buns for a golden finish.
- 8
Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
