Indulge in the warm, comforting flavors of Vdolky, a delightful Eastern European sweet pastry made with rich butter, eggs, and a hint of sweetness. Perfect for a cozy brunch or a special treat with coffee.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 250 ml milk
- 50 g sugar
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 2 large eggs
- 100 g butter
- a pinch salt
- 100 g powdered sugar
Method
- 1
In a small bowl, dissolve the dry yeast and sugar in warm milk. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter.
- 3
Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball.
- 6
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the dough balls until golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes each.
- 7
Remove the fried Vdolky and drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
- 8
Serve warm as a sweet treat, optionally with jam or fruit preserves.
