Indulge in the warm, spiced embrace of Varenukha, a traditional Eastern European honey-infused liqueur. Perfect for cozy gatherings or as a festive after-dinner treat, this delightful drink combines vodka, honey, and aromatic spices.

Ingredients

  • 1 liter water
  • 300 grams sugar
  • 500 grams honey
  • 300 milliliters vodka
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 pieces cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 1 piece lemon

Method

  1. 1

In a large pot, bring 1 liter of water to a boil.

  2. 2

Add 300 grams of sugar and 500 grams of honey to the boiling water, stirring until completely dissolved.

  3. 3

Once the mixture is well combined, add the cloves, cinnamon stick, and the juice of 1 lemon.

  4. 4

Allow the mixture to simmer for about 15 minutes, then remove it from heat and let it cool.

  5. 5

After cooling, strain the mixture to remove the spices and add 300 milliliters of vodka.

  6. 6

Stir in 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, mixing well.

  7. 7

Bottle the Varenukha and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before serving.

  8. 8

Serve chilled as a festive drink, optionally garnished with lemon slices.
