Savor the vibrant flavors of Mumbai with Vada Pav, a delightful street food featuring spiced potato fritters nestled in soft bread rolls. Perfect for a casual weeknight dinner or a fun snack with friends.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium boiled potatoes
  • 1 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 2 green chilies finely chopped
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 4 pav soft bread rolls
  • to taste salt
  • as needed oil

Method

  1. 1

Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped green chilies and turmeric powder.

  2. 2

Add the mashed potatoes to the pan and mix well. Season with salt. Allow it to cool slightly.

  3. 3

Shape the potato mixture into small balls (vada).

  4. 4

In a bowl, make a batter with besan, water, and a pinch of salt. The batter should be thick enough to coat the vadas.

  5. 5

Heat oil in a deep pan for frying. Dip each vada into the besan batter and carefully drop it into the hot oil.

  6. 6

Fry until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

Serve the hot vadas in pav, optionally adding chutney or fried green chilies for extra flavor.
