Savor the comforting flavors of Tutu de Feijão, a Brazilian dish made with creamy black beans and golden cornmeal. It's a hearty weeknight dinner that warms the soul and delights the senses.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups cooked black beans
- 1 cup cornmeal (fubá)
- 1 large onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
Method
- 1
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- 2
Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- 3
In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed black beans, cornmeal, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
- 4
Gradually add the sautéed onion and garlic mixture to the bean and cornmeal mixture. Stir until combined.
- 5
Transfer the mixture to the skillet and press it down evenly. Cook on low heat for about 10-15 minutes until the bottom is golden brown.
- 6
Carefully flip the Tutu de Feijão to cook the other side for another 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
- 7
Once fully cooked, remove from heat and let it cool slightly before slicing into portions.
- 8
Serve warm, garnished with chopped green onions. Enjoy with a drizzle of olive oil or hot sauce if desired.
