Indulge in the sweet, syrupy delight of Tulumba, a beloved Turkish pastry that combines a crispy exterior with a soft, airy interior. Perfect for a festive gathering or a cozy afternoon treat with coffee.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. 1

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  2. 2

In another saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Remove from heat and quickly stir in 1 cup of flour until it forms a dough.

  3. 3

Allow the dough to cool slightly, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Use a piping bag fitted with a star tip to pipe strips of the dough directly into the hot oil.

  5. 5

Fry the tulumbas until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

While they are still hot, dip the fried tulumbas into the cooled sugar syrup, ensuring they are well coated.

  7. 7

Serve the tulumbas warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your delicious Turkish dessert!
