Savor the bold flavors of Korea with this spicy tteokbokki, featuring chewy rice cakes simmered in a rich gochujang sauce. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner or a fun snack with friends.

Ingredients

  • 300 grams Korean rice cakes (tteok)
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
  • 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean red chili flakes)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 stalks green onions
  • 1 boiled egg egg

Method

    In a large pot, combine water, gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, and sugar. Stir well to combine.

    Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.

    Add the soaked rice cakes to the pot and reduce the heat to medium-low. Stir gently to avoid breaking the rice cakes.

    Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the rice cakes are soft.

    Once cooked, remove from heat and serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sliced boiled egg if desired.
