Indulge in the rich, creamy delight of Tres Leches, a classic Latin American dessert that soaks a light sponge cake in three types of milk. Perfect for celebrations or a sweet treat after dinner, it's a slice of heaven on your plate.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 5 large eggs
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- 2
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- 3
In another bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add the milk to the egg mixture.
- 4
Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- 5
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
- 6
In a separate bowl, mix the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy cream. Poke holes in the cooled cake and pour the milk mixture over it.
- 7
Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight to let it soak in the milk mixture.
- 8
Before serving, whip the heavy cream with vanilla until soft peaks form and spread over the top of the cake. Optionally, garnish with cinnamon or fruits.
