Indulge in the sweet, spiraled delight of Trdelník, a traditional Czech pastry with a crispy caramelized crust and warm cinnamon aroma. Perfect for a cozy weekend treat or a festive gathering with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 200 ml milk
- 75 g butter
- 50 g granulated sugar
- 10 g instant yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 100 g ground cinnamon
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Add the melted butter, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture, then stir to combine.
- 3
Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
- 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Once risen, preheat your grill or oven to 200°C (392°F). Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and roll each piece into long strips.
- 6
Wrap each piece around a greased wooden dowel or rolling pin, then roll in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
- 7
Cook on the grill (or in the oven) for about 10-15 minutes, rotating occasionally until golden brown and crispy.
- 8
Remove from heat, let cool slightly, and enjoy your fresh Trdelník with additional sugar or toppings if desired.
