Savor the crispy, golden goodness of tostones—twice-fried green plantains seasoned with garlic and lime. These delightful bites are perfect for a festive gathering or a cozy weeknight snack, bringing a taste of Latin America to your table.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 large green plantains
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 lime lime juice
- 1 garlic clove garlic
- 1 tablespoon cilantro
Method
- 1
Peel the green plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.
- 2
Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
- 3
Once the oil is hot, carefully add the plantain slices to the pan and fry them for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden and slightly soft.
- 4
Remove the fried plantains from the pan and drain on paper towels. Use a flat surface or a tostonera to flatten each slice to about half an inch thick.
- 5
Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil and fry them again for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side until they are crispy.
- 6
Remove the tostones from the oil, drain again on paper towels, and sprinkle with salt while they are still hot.
- 7
Serve the tostones warm with a drizzle of lime juice and optionally sprinkle with minced garlic and chopped cilantro.
