Savor the crispy delight of Tonkatsu, a beloved Japanese dish featuring tender pork loin chops coated in crunchy panko breadcrumbs. Perfect for a weeknight dinner, serve it with a drizzle of tangy tonkatsu sauce and a side of steamed rice.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 4 pieces pork loin chops
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 4 tablespoons tonkatsu sauce
Method
- 1
Prepare the pork loin chops by patting them dry with a paper towel and lightly pounding them to even out the thickness.
- 2
Season the pork with salt and black pepper on both sides.
- 3
Set up a breading station: Place flour in one shallow dish, beaten eggs in another, and panko breadcrumbs in a third.
- 4
Dredge each pork chop in flour, shaking off the excess, then dip in beaten eggs, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- 5
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- 6
Carefully place the breaded pork chops in the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 7
Remove the pork from the skillet and let it drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- 8
Slice the tonkatsu into strips and serve with tonkatsu sauce drizzled on top.
