Savor the heartiness of Tochitură, a traditional Romanian dish brimming with tender pork shoulder, smoky sausages, and rich tomato flavors. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends, this dish warms the soul.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams pork shoulder
  • 200 grams smoked sausages
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 200 ml tomato passata

Method

    Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.

    Add the pork shoulder cubes and cook until browned on all sides.

    Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot, sauté until the onion is soft.

    Stir in the sliced smoked sausages and paprika, cook for an additional 5 minutes.

    Pour in the tomato passata, season with salt and black pepper, then stir well.

    Cover and simmer on low heat for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pork is tender.

    If desired, fry the eggs in a separate pan to serve on top of the tochitură.

    Serve the tochitură hot, topped with the fried eggs if using, along with polenta on the side.
