Indulge in the sweet, spiced aroma of Tirggel, a traditional Swiss honey cookie infused with cinnamon and cloves. Perfect for holiday gatherings or cozy afternoons with tea, these delightful treats will warm your heart.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 250 g honey
- 200 g granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- pinch salt
Method
- 1
In a saucepan, combine honey, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and a pinch of salt. Heat gently until sugar dissolves and mixture is smooth.
- 2
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- 3
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and baking soda. Gradually add the honey mixture and enough water to form a stiff dough.
- 4
Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-10 minutes.
- 5
Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
- 6
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the cut-out shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 7
Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned. Allow to cool on a wire rack.
- 8
Once cooled, serve your Tirggel as a delightful snack or with coffee.
