Indulge in the rich flavors of Tehari, a fragrant South Asian rice dish infused with tender beef and aromatic spices. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams Basmati rice
- 500 grams beef (or chicken)
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 medium onions
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1 inch ginger
- 2 teaspoons tehari spice mix
- 4 cups water
Method
- 1
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add sliced onions and fry until golden brown.
- 2
Add crushed garlic and grated ginger to the pot. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- 3
Add the beef (or chicken) pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- 4
Stir in the tehari spice mix and cook for another 2 minutes to combine the flavors.
- 5
Add the soaked basmati rice to the pot and mix gently with the meat and spices.
- 6
Pour in the water, cover the pot, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
- 7
After 30 minutes, turn off the heat and let the Tehari sit covered for an additional 10 minutes.
- 8
Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro if desired.
