Indulge in a classic French Tarte Tatin, where sweet, caramelized apples meet flaky puff pastry, creating a heavenly dessert. Perfect for cozy dinners or special occasions, this upside-down tart is sure to impress your guests.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Braeburn)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 2
In a 9-inch (23 cm) cast iron skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- 3
Add the sugar to the melted butter and stir until dissolved, creating a caramel sauce.
- 4
Arrange the apple halves, cut-side up, in the skillet, and sprinkle with cinnamon and vanilla extract. Cook for about 10 minutes until the apples begin to soften.
- 5
Remove from heat and carefully place the puff pastry over the apples, tucking the edges down around the apples.
- 6
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
- 7
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate.
- 8
Serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
