Savor the vibrant flavors of Tamiya, a delightful Egyptian falafel made from fava beans, garlic, and fresh herbs. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual gathering, serve it with pita and tahini for a satisfying meal.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups fava beans
- 1 small onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 cup fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1 cup flour
- Oil for frying vegetable oil
Method
- 1
Drain and rinse the soaked fava beans, then place them in a food processor.
- 2
Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, fresh parsley, cumin, and coriander to the food processor.
- 3
Pulse the mixture until it forms a coarse paste. If needed, add a little water to help blend.
- 4
Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in the flour until well combined.
- 5
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Scoop tablespoons of the mixture and shape them into patties.
- 6
Fry the patties in the heated oil until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 7
Remove the patties from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- 8
Serve warm with pita bread and your choice of dips or salads.

Making tamiya is a delicious way to enjoy fava beans with some garlic and onion goodness.
I loved how the fava beans created such a creamy texture in this dish.
