Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Method

    Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

    In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and baking powder.

    Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Add the vanilla extract and mix until just combined.

    In another bowl, combine the sliced apples with cinnamon and lemon juice.

    Press half of the dough mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

    Layer the apple mixture evenly over the dough, then crumble the remaining dough over the apples.

    Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool before serving.
