Savor the heartwarming flavors of Japanese sukiyaki, a delightful one-pot dish featuring tender beef, earthy shiitake mushrooms, and crisp napa cabbage. Perfect for cozy weeknight dinners or gathering with loved ones.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup firm tofu, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup napa cabbage, chopped
  • 1 cup green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup sukiyaki sauce (soy sauce, mirin, sugar mixture)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

Method

  1. 1

Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet or shallow pot over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add the thinly sliced beef and cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes.

  3. 3

Pour in the sukiyaki sauce and water, stirring to combine.

  4. 4

Add the napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, tofu, and green onions to the pot.

  5. 5

Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes until vegetables are tender.

  6. 6

Serve hot, allowing each person to ladle their desired ingredients into bowls.

  7. 7

Enjoy Sukiyaki with steamed rice or as is, dipping each piece in raw egg if desired.
