Indulge in the warm, comforting flavors of Suji Halwa, a traditional Indian dessert made with semolina, ghee, and fragrant cardamom. Perfect for festive occasions or a sweet treat after dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina (suji)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (cashews, almonds)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1/4 cup raisins

Method

  1. 1

Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add semolina and roast until it turns golden brown, stirring constantly.

  3. 3

In a separate pot, boil water and add sugar. Stir until dissolved.

  4. 4

Slowly pour the boiling sugar water into the roasted semolina, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.

  5. 5

Add cardamom powder, chopped nuts, and raisins. Mix well.

  6. 6

Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the halwa thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.

  7. 7

Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

  8. 8

Serve warm, garnished with extra nuts if desired.
