Indulge in the sweet joy of Sufganiyot, fluffy jelly-filled doughnuts that are a Hanukkah tradition. Perfect for festive gatherings or cozy family brunches, these treats are a delightful way to celebrate togetherness.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup fruit jam
- oil for frying vegetable oil
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Add flour, sugar, egg, melted butter, and vanilla to the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
- 4
Roll the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut out circles using a cookie cutter.
- 5
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the dough circles until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes each.
- 6
Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels. While warm, fill each doughnut with fruit jam using a pastry bag.
- 7
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
