Indulge in the festive flavors of Stollen, a traditional German fruit bread filled with rich marzipan and spiced dried fruits. Perfect for holiday gatherings or a cozy afternoon treat with tea.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 200 g butter
- 250 ml whole milk
- 100 g sugar
- 10 g instant yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 150 g mixed dried fruits
- 100 g marzipan
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 50 g powdered sugar
Method
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Add the sifted flour, salt, ground cinnamon (if using), and mixed dried fruits to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Once risen, punch down the dough and fold in the marzipan pieces. Shape the dough into an oval loaf.
- 6
Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Allow it to rise for another 30 minutes.
- 7
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the Stollen for about 60 minutes or until golden brown.
- 8
Once baked, cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar. Let it cool completely before slicing.
