Savor the vibrant flavors of South African sosaties, featuring tender lamb or beef marinated in a sweet apricot jam and tangy red wine vinegar. Perfect for a weekend barbecue or a cozy family dinner, these skewers are sure to impress.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams lamb or beef, cubed
  • 1 cup apricot jam
  • 1 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 cup onions, quartered
  • 1 cup dried apricots
  • 4 skewers wooden or metal

Method

  1. 1

In a bowl, combine the apricot jam, red wine vinegar, soy sauce, and curry powder to create a marinade.

  2. 2

Add the cubed lamb or beef to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight.

  3. 3

Preheat your grill or barbecue to medium-high heat.

  4. 4

Thread the marinated meat, quartered onions, and soaked dried apricots onto the skewers, alternating between the ingredients.

  5. 5

Grill the skewers for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally and basting with the leftover marinade until the meat is cooked through.

  6. 6

Once cooked, remove from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.

  7. 7

Serve warm with rice or a fresh salad.
