Ingredients

  • 250 ml cake flour
  • 15 ml baking powder
  • 2 ml salt
  • 75 ml caster sugar
  • 65 g margarine or butter
  • 1 egg
  • 125 ml milk

Method

    Sift dry ingredients together.

    Rub butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

    Mix egg and milk together and add to dry ingredients, forming a soft but not sticky dough.

  4. 4

    Turn out onto a floured surface and pat out gently and lightly to a thickness of about 2cm.

    Cut out into circles or squares.

    Put out on a greased baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 12-15 minutes.

Notes

Serve scones with honey, syrup, or jam and cream.
