Savor the vibrant flavors of Middle Eastern cuisine with this homemade chicken shawarma, marinated in aromatic spices and served in warm pita with fresh veggies and creamy tahini. Ideal for a weeknight dinner or a casual gathering with friends.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams boneless chicken thighs
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 large pita bread
  • 1 cup tahini sauce
  • 1 cup sliced vegetables

Method

    In a large bowl, combine olive oil, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, turmeric, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.

    Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

    Preheat your grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated chicken and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side until fully cooked and browned.

    Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes. Then slice it thinly.
