Indulge in the sweet embrace of Şekerpare, a Turkish dessert made with semolina and walnuts, soaked in a fragrant lemon syrup. Perfect for a cozy afternoon treat or to impress guests at your next gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Method

    Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

    In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add the eggs, semolina, all-purpose flour, and baking powder to the mixture. Stir until combined to form a soft dough.

    Shape the dough into small balls (about the size of a walnut) and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Flatten each ball slightly and press a walnut piece on top.

    Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

    While the cookies are baking, prepare the syrup by boiling the water, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan for about 10 minutes. Let it cool.

    Once the Şekerpare are baked, remove them from the oven and pour the cooled syrup over the hot cookies. Allow them to soak for at least 30 minutes before serving.
