Experience the warmth of traditional Russian culture with Samogon, a homemade spirit crafted from grains and sugar. Perfect for sharing with friends during festive gatherings or cozy evenings by the fire.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 5 liters water
- 2 kg grains (barley, wheat, or rye)
- 250 g sugar
- 1 g yeast
- 1 piece activated carbon
- 1 unit distillation apparatus
Method
- 1
Boil the grains in water for about 30 minutes until they are soft.
- 2
Let the boiled grains cool down to around 30°C (86°F) before adding the yeast.
- 3
Add sugar (if using) and yeast to the cooled mash, stirring well to combine.
- 4
Cover the mixture and let it ferment for about 7-10 days in a warm place, stirring daily.
- 5
Once fermentation is complete, strain the mash using a fine cloth.
- 6
Pour the strained liquid into the distillation apparatus and begin the distillation process.
- 7
Collect the distillate in a clean container, discarding the first 50ml as it may contain impurities.
- 8
Filter the collected distillate through activated carbon to improve clarity and taste.
