Indulge in the warm, fluffy delight of Puff Puff, a beloved West African treat. Perfect for snack time or dessert, these sweet, spiced dough balls are irresistibly light and perfect for sharing with friends and family.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
Method
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, and nutmeg.
- 3
Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a smooth batter forms. The consistency should be thick yet pourable.
- 4
Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
In a deep pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of batter into it; it should sizzle.
- 6
Using a spoon or your hands, drop small balls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry them in batches, turning occasionally until they are golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes.
- 7
Remove the Puff Puff from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- 8
Serve warm as a snack or dessert, optionally dusted with powdered sugar.
