Experience the heartwarming flavors of Austria with these delightful Powidl Tascherl, a sweet pastry filled with rich plum jam and a hint of cinnamon. Perfect for a cozy afternoon treat or a festive gathering.

Ingredients

  • 200 g all-purpose flour
  • 100 g butter
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 250 g powidl (plum jam)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg egg wash

Method

    In a mixing bowl, combine flour, softened butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until a smooth dough forms.

    Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to let it firm up.

    Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

    Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 3mm thickness. Cut out circles using a cookie cutter or glass.

    Place a teaspoon of powidl in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.

    Place the filled tascherl on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden color.

    Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
