Indulge in the ultimate Canadian comfort food with this poutine, featuring crispy Russet fries smothered in rich gravy and topped with squeaky cheese curds. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a fun gathering with friends.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium Russet potatoes
  • 2 cups cheese curds
  • 2 cups gravy
  • 1 litre oil
  • salt to taste salt

Method

  1. 1

Peel and cut the Russet potatoes into thick fries, about 1/4 inch wide.

  2. 2

Rinse the fries in cold water to remove excess starch, then pat them dry with a clean towel.

  3. 3

In a large pot, heat the oil to 180°C (350°F). Carefully add the fries in batches and fry them until golden brown, about 5-6 minutes.

  4. 4

Remove the fries from the oil and drain on paper towels. Season with salt to taste.

  5. 5

Assemble the poutine by placing a generous amount of fries on a plate.

  6. 6

Top the fries with cheese curds, then pour hot gravy over the top, ensuring the cheese curds start to melt.

  7. 7

Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your authentic Canadian poutine!
