Indulge in the sweet, crumbly delight of Polvorones, traditional Spanish almond cookies infused with warm cinnamon and anise. Perfect for festive gatherings or cozy afternoons with tea.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 300 g all-purpose flour
- 200 g almond flour
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 100 g lard
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 1 tablespoon anise seeds
- 1 pinch salt
Method
- 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- 2
In a large bowl, mix the sifted all-purpose flour, almond flour, powdered sugar, cinnamon, anise seeds, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Add lard (or butter) to the dry ingredients and mix with your hands until it forms a crumbly texture.
- 4
Knead the dough gently until it comes together. Do not over-knead.
- 5
Shape the dough into small balls, then flatten them slightly to form discs about 1 cm thick.
- 6
Place the discs on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden but not browned.
- 7
Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack before dusting with powdered sugar.
