Savor the rich, aromatic flavors of Plov, a beloved Central Asian dish featuring tender chicken thighs, fragrant Basmati rice, and vibrant carrots. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups Basmati rice
- 400 g chicken thighs
- 1 large onion
- 2 carrots carrots
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups water
Method
- 1
Rinse the Basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- 2
In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown.
- 3
Add the chicken pieces to the pot. Cook until the chicken is browned on all sides.
- 4
Stir in the grated carrots and cook for another 5 minutes, allowing them to soften.
- 5
Add the cumin seeds and garlic cloves to the pot. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Season with salt.
- 6
Once boiling, add the soaked and drained rice to the pot. Stir gently, then cover the pot and reduce the heat to low.
- 7
Cook for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking.
- 8
Turn off the heat and let the Plov sit covered for 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve hot.
