Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 ml milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 250 g cabbage
  • 1 egg egg

Method

  1. 1

In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and melted butter.

  3. 3

Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

Once risen, punch down the dough and divide into equal pieces (about 12). Roll each piece into a circle.

  6. 6

Place a spoonful of sautéed cabbage in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over and pinch to seal.

  7. 7

Place pirozhki on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with beaten egg and let them rest for another 15 minutes.

  8. 8

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the pirozhki for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
