Indulge in the warm, comforting flavors of Turkish pide, a delightful flatbread topped with spiced minced lamb and fragrant cumin. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a gathering with friends.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams all-purpose flour
  • 25 grams fresh yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 250 grams minced lamb or beef
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

Method

  1. 1

Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.

  3. 3

Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let it rise covered in a warm place for 1 hour.

  4. 4

In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion until translucent. Add the minced meat and cumin, cooking until browned.

  5. 5

Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F).

  6. 6

Divide the risen dough into 4 pieces. Roll each piece into an oval shape, then fill with the meat mixture.

  7. 7

Fold the edges of the dough to create a boat shape and pinch to seal. Place on a baking sheet.

  8. 8

Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Serve hot.
