IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 large green plantains
- 2 cups vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- 1 lime lime wedges
Method
- 1
Peel the green plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.
- 2
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until hot.
- 3
Fry the plantain slices for about 3-4 minutes, or until they turn golden and tender.
- 4
Remove the fried plantains from the oil and let them cool slightly. Then, use the bottom of a flat surface to smash each piece to about half an inch thick.
- 5
Return the smashed plantains to the hot oil and fry again for another 2-3 minutes until crispy and golden.
- 6
Remove the patacones from the oil and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt while hot.
- 7
Serve warm with lime wedges and your choice of dipping sauce.
