Indulge in the creamy, custard-filled delight of Pastéis de Nata, a beloved Portuguese pastry. With a flaky puff pastry and a hint of cinnamon, these treats are perfect for a cozy afternoon or a festive gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 package puff pastry
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup sugar
- 6 large egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 cinnamon stick cinnamon stick
- 1 cup water
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F).
- 2
In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and cinnamon stick. Heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool.
- 3
In another bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, cornstarch, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually add the cooled sugar syrup while stirring continuously.
- 4
Add the heavy cream to the egg mixture, stirring gently until well combined.
- 5
Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into circles. Press each circle into a muffin tin, making sure to cover the sides.
- 6
Pour the custard mixture into each pastry shell, filling until three-quarters full.
- 7
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the custard is set.
- 8
Allow to cool slightly before removing from the muffin tin. Serve warm or at room temperature.
