- 1 cup black lentils (urad dal)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- 2 cups oil
- 1 cup coconut (grated)

Drain and grind the soaked black lentils into a smooth batter, adding a little water as needed.

Mix the baking powder, cardamom powder, and grated coconut (if using) into the batter until well combined.

Heat the oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.

Drop small spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying until they are golden brown and cooked through.

In another pot, combine the sugar and water, boiling until it reaches a one-string consistency to make the syrup.

Remove the fried balls (pantua) from the oil and soak them in the warm sugar syrup for a few minutes.
