Indulge in the warm, spiced aroma of Pain d'Épices, a traditional French gingerbread loaf sweetened with honey and dark brown sugar. Perfect for cozy evenings or festive gatherings, this treat pairs beautifully with tea or coffee.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 250 g honey
- 200 g dark brown sugar
- 300 g all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 cup milk
- 100 g sliced almonds
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F) and grease a loaf pan.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the honey and dark brown sugar until well blended.
- 3
In another bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg together.
- 4
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the honey mixture, alternating with the milk, until everything is well incorporated.
- 5
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle the sliced almonds on top.
- 6
Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Once baked, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
