Experience the delightful chewiness of Onde-Onde, a traditional Indonesian treat filled with sweet mung bean paste and coated in crunchy sesame seeds. Perfect for a festive gathering or a cozy afternoon snack.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams glutinous rice flour
  • 200 ml water
  • 100 grams mung bean paste
  • 100 grams sesame seeds
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 liter water

Method

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine glutinous rice flour and a pinch of salt.

  2. 2

Gradually add water to the flour mixture, kneading until a smooth dough forms.

  3. 3

Take a small piece of dough, flatten it in your palm, and place a small amount of mung bean paste in the center. Seal the dough around the filling and roll it into a ball.

  4. 4

Roll the ball in sesame seeds until fully coated.

  5. 5

Bring 1 liter of water to a boil in a pot. Carefully drop the coated balls into the boiling water.

  6. 6

Cook until the balls float to the surface, then let them boil for an additional 2-3 minutes.

  7. 7

Remove the Onde-Onde with a slotted spoon and let them cool on a plate.

  8. 8

Serve warm or at room temperature as a delightful snack or dessert.
