Savor the delightful flavors of Japanese okonomiyaki, a savory pancake packed with tender pork belly and fresh cabbage. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a fun weekend brunch with friends!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup cooked and chopped pork belly
  • 1 tablespoon green onions
  • to taste tablespoon okonomiyaki sauce
  • to taste tablespoon mayonnaise

Method

  1. 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and water, and mix until smooth.

  2. 2

Add the shredded cabbage, egg, chopped pork belly, and green onions to the batter and stir until well combined.

  3. 3

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.

  4. 4

Pour a portion of the batter onto the skillet, shaping it into a round pancake about 1 inch thick.

  5. 5

Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, until golden brown, then flip and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes on the other side.

  6. 6

Remove from the skillet and drizzle with okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise to taste.

  7. 7

Slice into wedges and serve hot, optionally garnished with additional green onions or bonito flakes.
