Indulge in the warm, fragrant embrace of Nan-e Taftoon, a traditional Persian flatbread that’s perfect for sharing at family gatherings or enjoying with your favorite dips. Its sesame-topped crust is simply irresistible!
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- sesame seeds to taste for topping
Method
- 1
In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and vegetable oil.
- 3
Mix until the dough forms a ball. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Preheat your Taftoon oven or a regular oven to 450°F (230°C).
- 6
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.
- 7
Transfer the dough to a baking tray, sprinkle sesame seeds on top if desired, and bake for about 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
- 8
Remove the bread from the oven and brush with a little oil while hot. Serve warm with your favorite dishes.
