Indulge in the vibrant flavors of Nalivka, a delightful Eastern European berry liqueur that combines fresh berries, zesty lemon, and a hint of vanilla. Perfect for toasting at gatherings or as a unique homemade gift.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 liter vodka
- 500 grams fresh berries
- 300 grams sugar
- 1 lemon zest
- 200 milliliters water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method
- 1
In a saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Heat gently until the sugar has fully dissolved to create a simple syrup.
- 2
Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the syrup to cool to room temperature.
- 3
In a large glass jar or container, add the fresh berries and pour the cooled syrup over them.
- 4
Add the vodka, lemon zest, and vanilla extract (if using) to the jar. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
- 5
Seal the jar tightly and store it in a cool, dark place for at least 2 weeks. Shake the jar gently every few days.
- 6
After 2 weeks, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the solids.
- 7
Transfer the liquid to clean bottles and seal. Serve chilled or at room temperature as a festive drink.
