Soft, pillowy naan infused with yogurt and brushed with ghee, this Indian flatbread is perfect for scooping up your favorite curries or enjoying with a warm bowl of soup. Ideal for weeknight dinners or special gatherings.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons ghee or butter
Method
- 1
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture and yogurt.
- 3
Mix the ingredients with a spoon until it starts to come together. Then, knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes while you preheat a skillet over medium-high heat.
- 5
Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten into an oval or circle about 1/4 inch thick.
- 6
Place the rolled naan onto the hot skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes or until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
- 7
Remove from the skillet and brush with ghee or butter while warm. Serve immediately.
