Warm your soul with this hearty mutton stew, featuring tender chunks of meat simmered with potatoes, carrots, and aromatic herbs. Ideal for cozy weeknight dinners or gatherings with loved ones.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams mutton, cut into chunks
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 3 medium carrots, sliced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 liter beef or lamb broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon thyme, dried
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Method

  1. 1

Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add the mutton chunks and brown them on all sides, approximately 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened, about 3 minutes.

  4. 4

Add the sliced carrots and chopped potatoes to the pot, then pour in the broth.

  5. 5

Season with thyme, salt, and black pepper, bringing to a boil.

  6. 6

Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the mutton is tender.

  7. 7

Taste the stew and adjust the seasoning if necessary before serving.

  8. 8

Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
