Indulge in the warm, flaky layers of Msemmen, a Moroccan flatbread that pairs beautifully with honey or savory dips. Perfect for a cozy breakfast or a delightful snack any time of day.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons semolina
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, semolina, sugar, and baking powder until well combined.
- 2
Gradually add warm water to the flour mixture while kneading until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- 3
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- 4
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each into a ball.
- 5
On a lightly oiled surface, flatten each ball with your hands, then drizzle melted butter and vegetable oil on top. Fold the edges towards the center to create a square shape.
- 6
Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each folded dough for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Remove from skillet and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining dough pieces.
- 8
Serve warm with honey, jam, or any filling of your choice.
