Indulge in the rich, velvety delight of Mousse au Chocolat, a classic French dessert that combines dark chocolate, whipped cream, and a hint of vanilla. Perfect for a romantic dinner or a special celebration.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 200 g dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method
- 1
Melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- 2
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with 2 tablespoons of sugar until pale and creamy. Stir in the melted chocolate and vanilla extract (if using).
- 3
In another bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form, then gradually add 1 tablespoon of sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
- 4
Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture until no streaks remain.
- 5
Fold in the whipped cream gently until fully combined, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
- 6
Spoon the mousse into serving dishes or glasses and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
- 7
Serve chilled, optionally garnished with whipped cream or chocolate shavings.
