Experience the vibrant flavors of Brazil with this Moqueca, a fragrant fish stew simmered in creamy coconut milk and brightened with fresh lime and cilantro. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams white fish fillets (such as cod or snapper)
- 200 ml coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 green bell pepper
- 1 bunch cilantro
- 1 lime juiced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Method
- 1
In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they are translucent.
- 2
Stir in the minced garlic and sliced bell peppers. Cook for about 5 minutes, until the peppers are softened.
- 3
Add the fish pieces to the pot and season with salt and black pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes, gently stirring to combine.
- 4
Pour in the coconut milk and lime juice. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cook for 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- 5
Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. If desired, add more lime juice for acidity.
- 6
Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving. Serve hot with rice or crusty bread.
