Indulge in a delightful Mohnstrudel, a traditional Eastern European pastry filled with nutty poppy seeds and a hint of vanilla. Perfect for a cozy afternoon tea or a festive dessert at family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 100 ml water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 250 g poppy seeds
  • 150 ml milk
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 50 g butter

Method

    In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, egg, warm water, and oil. Knead the mixture until a smooth dough forms.

    Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.

    While the dough rests, prepare the filling by heating milk in a saucepan. Stir in the ground poppy seeds, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.

    Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a thin rectangle. Spread the poppy seed filling evenly over the dough.

    Carefully roll the dough from one long side to form a strudel. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    Brush the top of the strudel with melted butter and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
